I know how you feel, I'm, starting to hate YA literature, some of it is great, but some not so good. I go on sites like goodreads and you see these teeny boppers who are in love with the a-list and gossip girl and the private series. I read their summarys and am distgusted by how shallow they are. I mean I guess its okay to have a guily pleasure, I admit to reading the pretty little liars series, but to call them the best books ever is pushing it. On the writing note I'm with you there, I have three trilogies I want to get done by end of the year and a whole bunch of side projects, so good luck to you.
I'm disgusted too. All the girls I used to go to school with read those and consider them AMAZING books. These are the same girls that nearly had panic attacks when we went to help out at a soup kitchen and started freaking out about how the homeless people were going to "rape and kill us!!!!!!". Ugh.
Ooh, a trilogy! What's it about? I wish you luck too- I want to get at least one of those projects (preferably "Brain") done by first semester.
Really? Thats horrible, the only reason I dont do soup kitchens is because the only one close to where I live is fourty miles away and my mom is afraid of freeways. Anyway, the one I'm writing now is a fantasy that has like every mythical creature in it, and I'm working on a summary for it because it is really hard to explain. The other one is about ghosts, and the last vampires. I'm a vamire freak, and that was before twilight, I read anne rice at twelve, twilight ruined vampires for me, I'm just now getting back into them. And my side projects are nuts, they go from a demon who captures souls to the french revolution.
So that's fun, I'll send you the summary of my first book when I'm done with it it still has a few tweaks, the summary not the book, the book is about into chapter nine.
A demon who captures souls DURING the French Revolution, hah! I love mythical creatures for some reason. They're so interesting and cool...and occasionally REALLY creepy. I think one of my friends read Anne Rice- Interview With A Vampire was based off of one of her books right?
Your stoy ideas sound great- definitely the type of stuff I'd read.
I agree with what you said about the teen section. I mean, there are a few decent books/authors: Libba Bray, Celia... I don't know her last name, but she wrote Witch Child and Pirates! Rees?... but there aren't that many any more. I've gone to bookstores with gift cards several times, all excited to buy the new exciting teen book on the market... and I've walked out of the store with either nothing or something like Julie Andrews' memoir (great, if you haven't read it). It's very disappointing. Like you said, how can The Clique, Gossip Girls, etc. be considered literature. Even when I want to rech for an easy read, I would never choose them.
Ahh, I love Julie Andrews. I know those books! Witch Child looks good, but I've never gotten it (even when I see at the library *sigh*). I rarely go there anymore because I'm usually disappointed. Now I usually just head straight to either fiction or history, I hardly ever bather with teen. And yeah, The Clique is just unbearable. I mean, it's good when you have a character you react to. But when you want to slap every single one of them, that's usually NOT a good sign. At. All.
