I'll try to contain the hatred, since I recently posted a rant in my journal about people who spread hate in fandom and don't let anyone enjoy anything, but I am not looking forward to the Avatar movie. The comments from POC about how they can't see themselves as protagonists in their own stories make me want to cry.
Haven't seen the DBZ movie, but I almost want to see it just for how terrible I expect it to be. I know it was whitewashed too, but that just kind of makes it all the more lolawful.
While I'm a Trekkie and I did like the new Star Trek movie (the aftertaste of all the problems I had with it is starting to set in, but dammit, it was a fun ride) from what I can tell being a non-Trekkie makes you more likely to enjoy it, not less. It's the hardcore fans that are freaking out over it. I was easily bought by some shiny and lots of gay subtext. And isn't that what Star Trek was REALLY about

Thanks for replying! How have you been? I read briefly on your trip across Canada. Very awesome :)
Isn't it the case with most movies-based-off-something-else - the hardcore fans hate it but those that aren't into that particular fandom enjoy it? As the saying goes, "Ignorance is bliss."
The Twilight books actually aren't that bad at all, in my opinion, as long as it's understood that the books were written for teens. Many of the characters are actually interesting and 3-dimensional. I wonder if the hatred stems from the fact that the concept of the saga isn't really original at all, yet Stephanie Meyer managed to be lucky enough to make a killing off of it.
Regarding Jacob/Renesmee...perhaps I've gotten weird over the years? I've seen/read many..."interesting" things in various fandoms that have been widely accepted by over-enthusiastic fangirls. Perhaps it's finally rubbed off on me *laugh*
That's kind of the reason I want to see Watchmen before reading the comic. I'll enjoy the movie if I don't know what it's supposed to be.
I think Twilight really shoots itself in the foot with the sparkling. Everything else I could shrug off pretty easily, but there's nothing about SPARKLING VAMPIRES that is not hilarious. But I think a lot of stuff they say about those books, well, you could hate just about anything if you tried that hard.
I have mixed feelings about Leah. In so many aspects she got the short end of the stick - it's really not fair what she has to put up with. But man, she can be such a bitch! I fully understand why, but still...
Funny thing about Rob. Nobody seems to want to remember that he was Cedric Diggory a la Harry Potter before he became a Sparkling Vampire. ::laughs on that visual, because she pictures Tinkerbell with PMS::
