Do you think that you've become jaded?

How do you like TEFL? I was actually looking into that recently myself (seen/heard a lot of horror stories though).

What's wrong with falling in love? Can you honestly say you don't want love?

What kind of stories are left that don't involve money, family, love, career, aspirations or tragedy?

Do you feel like you inadvertently encountered the very things you ran away from in the States?

Where do you go from here?

I wasn't so much talking about the certification as the actual teaching. sorry, I presumed you were teaching english as a foreign language to locals when you said your contract at the school still had three months. is that not what you are teaching?

true, gold digging veiled as marriage is wrong no matter where it's done at.

are you saying the honeymoon is over?

Sorry, you're right, I am teaching english as a second language. That's not so bad, it's teaching at public schools to monster kids that I just really don't like.

YES.... the honeymoon is definitely, definitely over.

Granted, I was only in Vietnam for 6 months but I did see and feel the same things you mentioned. My big issue was the single woman thing.... it was everywhere I went, the locals would ask me where my husband was and where my children were. They didn't quite grasp the idea of a single, independent, working, woman and I didn't think it was an issue ( ... )

These are definitely things I have a problem with living here. A lot of single expat women have a hard time around here. Unfortunately the women tend to leave within a few months... much longer than most guys.

To make some complaints about places you've been to regardless of it bein' a great opportunity or experience isn't bad. I mean, I still appreciate that I'm here, but I'm not gonna lie and tell people it's all fine and dandy. I'm glad you shared what you went thru here.

Sometimes I wish women could just go anywhere and be treated as nice as men are.

I want to say that I feel honored that you devoted an entire entry to my question and also I appreciate the honesty and sincerity in your answer. You made me happy and sad within seconds while reading what you had to say. I will definitely say that you are a gifted writer and orator. I like the way you organize your thoughts before putting them on paper. I would like to hear more if you are willing. It was good looking over your site yesterday and I found that you are an incredible photographer as well. mmc1000@cox.net

What did you do up and quit your job of a lifetime? I have always had the impression that Vietnamese kids are so well mannered. Not so huh? How many hours are you in the classroom per week?
I saw that you took a trip to Da Lat. I've been there but not the same way that you were. I would love to go to Mau Son Mountain. Ever been there? When I move to Vietnam I want to see everything. My house is located in Bao Loc so I am kind of centrally located.
I have been thinking about buying that Rosetta stone language software. Any ideas or comments? Do you speak fluent Vietnamese?

What was my job of a lifetime?? Vietnamese kids well mannered??? Okay, maybe there are, but there are crazy kids, too. A lot of it is that some of the kids tend to go crazy when they have English lessons. They never act like that with their Vietnamese teachers. I'm in the classroom about 22 hours a week. So 6 hours with kids, but that's enough to kill it all.

I've never been to Mau Son Mt. Why do you have a house in Bao Loc?

Rosetta stone's expensive. I'm sure you can find sites online to learn Vietnamese and then learn it here. My Viet isn't fluent, but it's ok.
