I heart the U.S. of A

I know it's been awhile, but right after I finished my U.S. Tour, I flew to Thailand to play nanny for a set of twins and brought my little sis with me. I've been in a condo in Hua Hin for the past week and we're leaving for Bangkok tomorrow for another week. I'll be spending my birthday here, sober, with no friends.... AND, it was done ( Read more... )

I heart the U.S. of A anonymous July 24 2009, 22:41:27 UTC
I've been reading your blogs about VN. Wow is all I have to say. You've been here for 3 years now? and still bitchin, moaning, complaining about this and that in VN - definitely something wrong (with you). Learn to adapt, you're in a DIFFERENT country, food, laws, customs, etc.. it's NOT North America for cryin' out loud. Pittsburgh??? oh please, what a hole . . .

You have a passport - may be it's time for you to go back to the US now? Just a thought, better off for you and the Vietnamese!

Regards,

An NYC Guy living in HMC for 5+ years now.

Yep, I’ve been in Saigon for over 3 years and I’m still bitchin’ and moanin!! That’s what I do. If you don’t like it, why did you bother reading more of my blog? Learn to adapt? Wow, that’s really sound advice! I’ve been traveling around the world since I was 8, I think I understand that. I have adapted and I realize I am in a different country with different food, laws and customs, and whatever else. I live a lot more local than a lot of westerners do. What do you think I do, just prance around complaining about every single thing that’s different from North America? Starting sentences with,”Well, in America……”You think I just hate it so much, I feel like I’m in jail? I never said that and it’s obvious you haven’t understood anything about my blog ( ... )

Settling in? Whats that and who knows when. Each time I think I'm getting close the realization of two more years hits me. Right now I am working two jobs to save enough money to live comfortably and to pay off the house in Bao Loc. I hope that you are still there when I arrive because I am really looking forward to meeting you. It doesn't matter to me if you bitch and moan all the time because I know that you are a very deep and caring person that I would love to get to know. I assume that you are back in HCM now so what are your plans? Another teaching stint? You strike me as being very spontaneous so who knows what you'll end up doing. Well keep your chin up and I look forward to your continued insight. Mike

Alright Lisa it's been over a week now and we haven't heard from you. You didn't drink any of that SanGria beer did you? That stuff is bad enough on it's own w/o having impurities in it. Seriously it's time to post and let us know what is going on in your wonderful life and provide us with insight on the wonderful country you live in. I for one am anxiously waiting. Mike

another negative "ugly American" view of Asia anonymous September 27 2009, 02:03:44 UTC
Found your blog from another blog list, read your first three paragraphs relating to your return to the USA and I have to say, you are so typical of that type of American (and I am a citizen of the US of A to clarify)who enters a foreign country, compares virtually everything that doesn't quite sit "right" with your definitions and so is "wrong" or "terrible ( ... )
