7th month update

May 05, 2010 14:16

It’s been a long time, I know that. Last time I wrote, I was only in the middle of my hiatus. In December I flew to my dad’s in Seattle and took my first step towards my plan to start a new career, which is to be a certified personal trainer. It isn’t such a big thing, but it’s my backup plan to something bigger, which I will tell you someday, but ( Read more... )

"I don't care if I have it all wrong."

With this outlook, you really can't fail.

How old are you? Someone said you shouldn't figure out what you want to do with your life before you're 30, someone else said 35. I don't remember who these famous people were.

Sounds like you're right where you need to be.

I was like this a bit. I thought everything would always feel wrong after a while. I've lived in five different states in my adult life. I've moved dozens upon dozens of times. The first time I drove into this town (7 years ago!), before I even stepped a foot down I knew I was done wanting to move. About two weeks into my current (5-year!) relationship, I knew I never wanted to leave. This was also something I'd never felt. I didn't know it was possible for things to make sense. I thought people just settled. I'm glad I didn't.

Keep doing what you're doing, changing and everything.

I'm 31 and I like those quotes! :) I spend so much time figuring myself out, I have no idea how people can fit that in with a family and all ( ... )

I'm in Bellingham (80 miles north of Seattle). Was it Lisa that you met? She and I have been lj friends for almost ten years, I've lived here for almost seven, and we've never met. I'm not sure why that is, but I'm also really shy.

You are definitely right. At least I'd like to think so :) With me it doesn't even seem like a choice. When I love something, I put 150% of my energy into it and when I don't like it, I can't seem to get myself up in the morning and I hate every minute of my life. I like what you said about the straight line.. you're absolutely right with that. At least I'm goin' SOMEwhere :)

SOUL DAMPENERS!! You're absolutely right! I'm also totally the same way. I love my parents and all, but damn, I just can't live near them! It was perfect being in Florida for college b/c my dad was in Seattle and my mom was in Paris.

Thanks for your 2 cents. You make me feel less crazy and that's sayin' a lot :)

This is made of win. :)

Your awesomeness is an inspiration (seriously, I wish I were half as awesome as you). You have a very rich life and many people would love to taste that richness for themselves (I also think that freedom scares a lot of people too because they can't really wrap their mind around it as they are so used to the ball & chain status quo of settling into a daily grind).

I continue to send good vibes your way! :)
Wishing you all the best Lisa,
Bruce

Aw, thanks. I can always count on you to boost my ego and be at my side :) I think you're right about freedom. I think some people just don't know what to do with it, it's too open-ended.

Thanks for the good vibes, I think they're workin' ;)

Thanks very much, Bruce. :)

I agree with Bruce. AWESOME, Just fricking Awesome. You need to do what is right for you and you will know when it is time to do what ever. In the meantime just enjoy life. I'm dealing with the guilt feelings of moving so far away from family and I say just deal with it as people have been moving around since the beginning of time. People need to live their own lives and make their own decisions based on what is right for them. Mistakes will be made but a lot of the time those are the only things we learn from. Although quite uninteresting at times, never shun away from advice people have to give you especially Mom and Dad as they truly love you and want what is best for you.
Now, give us the good stuff. What kind of fun things have you been doing in Florida?

Do what's right for me and enjoy life. Sounds good to me! :)

I can understand the guilt of movin' away, but ya know what? They'll get over it. I used to visit my family in Paris once or twice a year and I saw them more than the rest of the family who all lived within 15 minutes of each other! I don't think it's fair to make people live near their family or friends. The world is simply TOO BIG to do that. Where did you move from??

You're right about advice. I make sure I listen carefully to those who are more experienced, but there's just so much babbling I can take from family members who just don't get who I am. My dad and step mom use me as an example of a failure... just because haven't settled yet. If people can't separate who I am and who they think I should be, I just don't want to even bother.

Oh man, Florida has been awesome! Biking, beaching, kayaking, and just enjoying the fresh air. Life is just great right now. If only I can make the time to get some studying in!

I'm a mover and shaker just like you. Started in Seattle, then Ohio, Jacksonville Beach (compliments of the US Navy), Norfolk Va., back to Ohio, then to Kentucky, back to Ohio, then back to Seattle, now in Oklahoma City. I'm really looking forward to the move to Bao Loc and I'm sure like you say, I'll be returning every couple of years. There's a family get together of sorts coming up this month so I'll get to see how everyone feels about it as if it really matters.

Are you going to school in Jacksonville? What are you studying? Any idea on when you will be returning to Vietnam?

No, not goin' to school. I'm tryin' to get my personal training certification through NASM. Hmm.. I hope to get back by the end of the year, but who knows??
