It's really interesting: After two years and three classes with her, the whole 'she had a partner' took me sideways when I found out via the article of her death. I had never directly thought about it, it never came up when we talked, and nothing surrounding it ever was any big deal for it to come up. Just interesting the things you find out after someone dies.
It is interesting. Since I used to work for Gail and Yvonne at their house doing odd-jobs and yardwork, I knew them both outside their town personas. Gail was open, but private and - I can't speak for her, but - I always figured that she was so much more interested in hearing about YOU and YOUR life than she was about painting a story-picture of herself for you.
A good listener, for sure. She could draw you out of an airtight Vault, eh?
You know Yvonne. She made (makes) delicious omelets in Powell on Sundays. Sometimes she also did sandwiches. She's the lady.
I must say, and pardon me for being sort of blunt, but it's funny to me that two of the most prominent lesbians on campus have partners with Eastern European accents: Robyn Goodman is married (in my book, it's marriage) to another lovely Easterner (Irene) who is also a fabulous cook.
