It was just after 9… The ship had pulled out of the dock at 9pm, as promised… The trip had officially started. And as the last traces of sunlight fled from the sky, and the stars began to appear, Alfred knew it would soon be time for couples to be heading back downstairs. Dinner had been delicious, and the group atmosphere was a lot of fun, but it was Valentine’s Day, and there was no doubt that every couple had their own plans for the night. Alfred had his own plans for him and his boyfriend… even if they probably weren’t the same kind of plans as those made by some of the other couples on the boat. He smiled, just thinking about it… He hoped Kiku would like his little presents that he had waiting for him back in the room, and he couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when he gave them to him. But he wasn’t ready to head back to the room just yet...
“Hey, wanna go for a walk?” he asked. Then, without waiting for answer, he led Kiku to the back of the boat, where they had a better view of the ocean.” They stood there for a moment, watching the boat make little ripples in the otherwise calm waters. The ripples made a little path, so they could see where they’d been so far, at least up until a certain point, and then they faded away in the distance…
It was windy on the deck, which made the chilly February air feel even colder. (How Feliks was wearing shorts in this weather, he would never understand.) So instinctively, Alfred took off his jacket and draped it over his smaller boyfriend’s shoulders. He didn’t even know if Kiku was cold or not, but he figured it couldn’t hurt to offer it to him anyway. Sighing happily, he leaned on the railing and glanced over at his boyfriend once again. This was one of those times where their size difference was very apparent. After all, the bomber jacket was pretty big on him; so big, it was almost comical... And yet, there was something endearing about the way the brown leather jacket hung loosely on his small frame… Maybe it was simply the fact that Kiku was wearing his jacket… his clothing. And Alfred had given it to him without a second thought… It was such a couple’s thing to do, he realized. Well, they were a couple now… In fact, it was coming up on 2 months now, since they had started going out. Two whole months…
‘We really have come a long way since the beginning of the school year…’ Roommates to friends to best friends… to boyfriends… But they had still managed to stay best friends, which was without a doubt one of the best things about their relationship. This was why they worked so well… He was in love with his best friend.
‘How did I get so lucky?’
Alfred reached over and grabbed Kiku’s hand, something he had really come to like doing, and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Happy Valentine’s Day,” he said softly. “It’s definitely the best one I’ve ever had so far…” And to think, he was able to say that, and he hadn’t even had any chocolate yet.
