I didn't actually try the Start Menu because the first I saw of it sort of said to me "This is the XP Start Menu that I hate so much", so I turned it off in favour of the Classic one.

I might give it a try tomorrow, but most of the points you brought up are pretty much my pet hate of the XP Start Menu: that it is doing the thinking for me. So I don't think I'll be liking it too much.

Fair enough. I used to hate the XP menu too, mainly because I'd never used it, and I expected it to be unpredictable and different to what I was used to.

That said, in Vista due to the combination of the run/filter start menu thing and the Games Explorer, I never actually go into my actual start menu anymore.

And I remember how annoying it was to sort everything in my start menu to keep it from going into another column, especially when you haven't formatted in a few years.
