In the NW and doing fine

So, um, I don't live in Vernonia anymore and thus am just fine. I mention this since Vernonia, where I taught last year, is having the kind of flooding problems that leads to some people being in Red Cross shelters and a second day of school closures. Last year it was multiple-day power outages after a storm right before winter break so I think ( Read more... )

Do put up an RSS feed if you beat that laziness enough to set up your own thing. (I'm still willing to be here, just because I have too many friends to do a move without losing touch with a lot of them, but I'm sure as hell done with the paid account. There was a long-ish post about this a while back, in case you missed it.)

I did see your post, actually. I read everything on my friends list but often run about a week behind so I rarely comment anymore. I'm also kind of unwilling to give up reading here because there are so many people I'd lose touch with that way.

I have a permanent account so I'm really torn on abandoning my journal for content-posting since I know that, on some level, I'm a money suck for them now. What I'll probably do is set up an RSS feed, ban livejournal from accessing it, but cross-post to this journal in lieu of syndicating here just to reduce the ad load they get from my content. I'll have to see if there's a good cross-posting tool that will let me end-run rss like that.

I have heard that you can get WordPress (the server software, not necessarily their blogging service) to play nicely with OpenID, thus allowing you to blog on your own site but still restrict access to your posts to people on your friends list. I'm tempted to try this out.

If you get it working, let me know. I'm highly tempted to go that route.

If I do, I will, but it might be a while. You might want to investigate on your own. (I think it's just a matter of finding the right plug-ins.)
