LiveJournal is disappointing me, water is wet, and bears shit in the woods

So, LiveJournal has found another way to disappoint me. This isn't really surprising anymore, and I've pretty much stopped posting outraged entries every time they manage to do so, but I've decided that this one is actually a good time to talk about norms, content ownership, and such ( Read more... )

Sigh. I too have been following this issue, though without saying much yet.

As someone else has noted on my friends-list, they have also restored a more insidious feature known as "pingbacks." This fee-chur also does not respect whether the linked post or comment is locked or not; even worse, it's ENABLED by default. [!!]

To fix this, do the following:
1) Go to LJ Home (or ensure you can access the LJ menu)
2) Choose Profile > Settings from that menu
3) Choose "Privacy" tab in the resulting web-page
4) Pingbacks is usually third from the bottom; choose "disable" in the drop-down

Hope this helps ...

Yeah, I saw that too, although mine wasn't enabled for whatever reason (probably I turned it off years ago the last time they rolled this feature out). From this post: http://helens78.dreamwidth.org/860769.html it seems like the usual combination of problematic and non-problematic behavior.

I'm kind of giving them a week or two on that one to see what they do and don't fix before I waste much energy being annoyed on that front given the more problematic nature of the other "features". (I'm concerned that, per that post, it may send pingbacks even if the account has them disabled, but less concerned about the behavior, assuming it otherwise works as described in that post, if that's not true or gets fixed. I haven't played with it myself.)

I still have Dreamwidth invites, if you'd like one.

I already got one from someone else (I'm over there as Algeh), but thank you. Who are you over there? I kind of expected it to have some kind of feature where it'd be easy to find people who'd friended you on LiveJournal and had DW accounts as well, but I haven't found anything like that.

I'm still Safiiru, in case you hadn't guessed by now. And a find-DW-equivalents-on-LJ feature would be nice, but I'm not sure how to implement it correctly... would people want their crossposting settings publicized? Is guessing that the same name means the same user a good idea?

Oh, and can I assume you will be cross-posting? I now have my reading filters set up as though you will be, but, if not, let me know so I don't miss something.

How does the Twitter link work? As you may know, Twitter imposes a short limit on posts. If a comment is too long, do they just truncate bot
