Yes, all shows go through a similar process, and there is a vast amount of difference in quality between them. So who's to blame? Presumably, based on this, it's the showrunners, the folks at the top who dictate direction. And I can see that holding some water; after all, if you were to sum up Season 8 of Supernatural, even the kindest version would have many fans doing a jaw drop. Let's have Sam in a relationship. Let's have it that he doesn't bother to search for Dean and defends that decision when Dean reappears. Let's spend time every episode backtracking onto that soggy relationship. I mean - no one looked att his and said, uh, guys? Guys? This ain't gonna play well... Not to mention backward spells, incarnate angels, etc etc.So do we blame the people at the top who looked at the over-arching plot lines and said, make it so? Or do we look at the writers who did not do what they could to slavage from the wreckage? You know what? I reckon there's plenty of blame to go around ( ... )

Even the Jensen Pretty won't keep me watching if S9 isn't a big improvement on S8.

Yeah, I think that might be true of me too. But I'm keeping fingers crossed. Always was an optimist.
