Far too much loud music has left my hearing pretty screwed. It's not at an annoying level though. Occasionally I hear a hum/whine but I just tend to ignore it.
You may just need a wax removal thing - they used to call it and ear syringe - not sure if they still do that though.
Had it for donkey's years. I really only notice it when all of a sudden, usually in low-level noise or silence, it turns up to FULL VOLUME, which feels deafening at the time. Then an hour or so later and I realise I've stopped noticing it again.
I have several intrusive ones and some that I rarely notice but when I do I can't get my brain to filter them out for days. My favourite is a random morse code one in my right ear that I spent my childhood convinced was aliens and/or secret radio waves that I spent my nights trying to work out the secret to.
I need to have some form of background noise (usually FiveLive) to concentrate or sleep.
I've been to the Nose, Ear and Throat recently for tests as my hearing generally has been a bit up and down and they reckon my problems are due to Ear Glue as a child but there is no cure as such.
I've never considered it annoying though. I'd be far more annoyed at having imperfect vision or rubbish taste buds.
I've also had mild tinnitus for probably all my life, although when I was a kid / teenager didn't realise that hearing a slight ringing sound in the background all the time wasn't normal.....
It is something that has got worse in recent years (probably not helped by teenage years listening to loud music) - and has its good and bad moments - especially if I get snotty with a cold or sinus problems and then sometimes it gets unbearable.
I find that complete silence is the worst as that's when it's deafening (a bit like having a detuned tv with white noise crackle), so if I do get stuck like that I normally put some gentle music, or spoken word (like radio 4) on very very low to break the silence - which gives my brain something else to concentrate on instead of the ringing noises. Also, if I'm snotty / Sinusey then taking a decongestant also helps lessen the symptoms.
Good luck with the Docs - and if they recommend anything please pass it on :)
