I literally cannot even. This is so genius and crazy and darling and of course Jack wasn't around, he's not foolish enough to be involved in these kinds of shenanigans. (Also, I'm just picturing Vaughn and Syd walking around holding hands like Darla and Alfalfa and the preciousness gets stronger. AND TINY ARVIN OH MY GOD.)
"Jack had never understood Arvin’s fascination with Rambaldi artifacts - for many reasons, but among them was the fact that nobody ever seemed to understand precisely what one of the devices did until it was activated. What if the machine in question did something you didn’t want it to do?"
EXACTLY. i always thought, what if sloane's going gaga over getting the latest Rambaldi in order to build his doomsday device and then later its all built and stuff, then it turns out to be something completely lame, it just *looked* badass: 'now introducing the latest in Apple technology....The Rambaldi!!!! there's an app for that!'
... now that you mention it, Apple and Rambaldi aren't that far apart, are they? And you'd keep on building the devices, just in case one of them is the iPhone.
Oh God this is adorable. At first I was thinking, "Oh, Marshall can fix this" but then, of course, Marshall was affected too! And poor Jack! The only adults he talks to (because we all know his friends outside of work are limited...or nonexistent) are now four. On the up side, if it can't be reversed, maybe Jack will be a better father to Sydney this time around.
Also, when I saw there was a new alias500 fic I had a near Pavlovian reaction of joy. :)

You know, Jack and I totally agree on Rambaldi. Way the hell more trouble than he's worth.
And Arvin is always all OOOOO SHINY. As if it can't destroy you if it's shiny.
Great child-characterization on Marshall and Dixon (heee!) and great Jack-voice.
