I picked the last novel I read because it was such an intense experience, both heartbreakingly tragic yet uplifting too, and very spiritual. Also a damn good yarn. It saved me from post Brokeback malaise, and is easily the best book I've read in years because it's just so full...romance, war, sex, coming of age/coming out, redemption, etc etc. Okay you probably get it, I loved the book! Plus it's got novelty value (for me anyway) as it's by a Maori writer about issues relating to the culture and history of the people from a gay perspective. Probably goes without saying coming from me it's a gay book. Another one that tilted my worldview a little was Jay Quinn's Back Where he Started, that rare beast a happy ended literary gay romance.
