seme (pronounced say may)

I sometimes float between adoration and irritation with sensei.  He is extremely picky and rarely complimentary.  I realize that this is very "old school" Japanese.  I've lost count of the times I've thought, Jesus Christ, how minor is that?  However, I do find that my skill level is much higher than my peers in other dojo of the same time of ( Read more... )

I am somewhat familiar with the alternative manga meaning, but I only just realised I'd been mentally pronouncing it completely wrong this entire time (obviously I'm unlikely to actually pronounce it often.)

It's funny how a number of martial arts terms have manga meanings too, most of them sexual. :P

Uke and Nage for example.

Love baby Smaug!! :))))

Yes Senseis are picky, aren't they. Mine is relentless on me for "relaxing" and I swear, sometimes I think I'm relaxed and he still pounds me with it. Well, whatever doesn't kill us... ;)

My aikido sensei is very good about not giving people too much correction to work on at once. But even the ni-dans and above sometimes clench up when they know he's watching.

I think as kids we get conditioned to look at corrections as punishments, when in fact they're just guidance.

I do sometimes get overwhelmed by too much correction. I can generally fix one thing at a time.

I'm still getting use to old school Japanese style. Sometimes, the harsher they are the more they like you. :\

I think most of my chameleons are used to me now. They run a bit, but once they're in my palm they can sit there for a long time. :)

I get the same thing! I think, I'm doing what he wants, aren't I? It was great to see some pics of myself so I could see what I was doing wasn't what I was thinking I was doing.

Oh, shiznit away!

And, I didn't get the job I had interviewed for. They did make the right choice though. The other guy was far more experience and I didn't want the, "she got it on gender or her family connections," bs.

It's strange little weird similarities between us, because we are in general so different. Maybe it's the influence of Hawaii, or a USAF-brat thing, but I've had both chameleons and a mantis as a pet, before.

The mantis don't live long. Mine (wild-caught) laid eggs before dying, which hatched the following spring and I had to leave the cage out in the back yard, open, for all the little buggers to get out. Hatching was quite a melée, as the ones whose exoskeletons have hardened hang around to snack on those just emerging.

:D Oh, I love my odd little pets. I had a spider farm too. I want to get Jackson chameleons again. They can be a bit iffy healthwise, but they are actually very friendly and will come to you to sit in your lap or on your head.

I've been feeding my mantis bees so far. I think mine is a male so I may have to see if I can get a female.

Harold and Smaug...sounds like a bad tv show. lol

Oh yeah, when I did karate in college, my sensei was very picky about everything.
