I changed my journal name. The Alice theme stands, but it's a reference to Through The Looking Glass. It's the chess move that results in Alice's coronation as a queen. I think it's a very accurate representation of the transformation I'm undergoing

Well, "OkCupid" does kind of signal a search for love interests, no matter how artfully clothed in platonic garb. :)

Shared interests are a superb way to meet all manner of new people, and there are at least a couple of companies focusing on the social aspects more and the dating not-so-much (not that it can't or doesn't happen):

I found Meetup to be very helpful in getting me connected here in Indy. There are even more of them near you, and they're free.

Linkup is another good one - I belonged in the Bay Area, but they're not so active here. They're not free, but the approx $5/mo was very affordable, and served to keep the flakes at bay.

Not trying to dissuade you from OkCupid - just offering some alternatives. Check them out and see what suits ya!

I will definitely check those out.

I mostly went with OkCupid because I'm not totally adverse to romance right now, I'm just not actively looking for rest-of-my-life material. And the guys I've met so far are pretty nice.

But yeah, thanks for those links. I'm at a point where I'm definitely ready to find more friends.
