"this is why when i have a friend (see frantom) who actually does something of tremendous worth with her life, i feel jealous: i want to do something worthwhile!"

There is no question that you will be doing something worthwhile, that you are currently doing something worthwhile, and that you have been doing many worthwhile things for several years now. What could be more important than sustaining the life of the mind? Without intellectual discourse, life wouldn't be worth living. It's your job to both further that discourse and make it accessible to young minds. Were it not for instructors and professors like you, I would be a very dull, narrow person indeed. (Despite their best efforts, I may yet remain so but that's another discussion.) I know the work you're doing because we discussed it many times. Take it from someone who knew you quite well for a time: your work will help shape people's understanding of their world and is therefore of the highest possible value.
