I just realized that I never posted my own eHarmony profile for all of you to read and chuckle over (or criticize and pick apart for incorrect grammar).

I think the profile is always a work in progress - in part mutable according to whim and response to the profiles I'm getting.  For instance, I realize now that communicating that I'm a democrat ( Read more... )

Sounds good! And I think political and religious affilation is pretty important to know about someone. Is there a blank for that anywhere on the page, or do you have to state it?

They do ask you what religion you are and you can select your matches based on your tolerance level. Mine says "Christian" but that is obviously a huge catch-all. I might rather put "spiritual but not practicing" but I fear that God might smite thee.

They also ask if you smoke, how often you drink, and whether you want kids because those are often deal-breakers for compatibility. I said that I never smoke, drink maybe once a week, and yes to kids. I screened my matches to only give me those that never smoke. I'm too sensitive to smoke to tolerate this in someone else.

It would be nice to have a politics one but I think they are hoping people are open-minded to embrace diversity. I'm not a radical left-winger but I know I couldn't date a neo-con. My dad is one to a degree, and I think I would either have to avoid political/news discussion all the time or kill him if I had to live with him all the time.

That makes me think I should put that in my comments (the democrat thing - not the killing Republicans thing).

Yeah, I've met a few Republicans I would consider date-able, but I would find it REALLY difficult for most of them. Not really politics per se, but just... the things that are important to me and how I approach the world...

Yes, I don't necessarily think it's the party they belong to as much as their values and belief system. There are Republicans who are really more like moderates that I could probably be ok with, but my Dad is one of those who still thinks global warming is a myth that the commie tree-huggers concocted along with Al Gore.
