Hee! I too needed a nudge in order to read it, but I was certainly glad once I did. You're right, there is something a bit Calligraphesque about it - calm and understated, but with a sense of powerful feelings just below the surface. Also that quality of "life goes on, and you still have to buy the groceries."
"Life goes on, and you still have to buy the groceries."
You know, in some way both shallow and insanely deep, I do believe that's the guiding principle in my life.
It's not a "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" philosophy; it's more a "Step Over the Small Stuff Because if You Don't, It'll Get Caught in Your Shoe and Ruin it and Then You'll Have Small Stuff AND No Shoes" kind of philosophy.
Heh. Yeah. This is such a great story. I have to say that if it weren't rec'd so far and wide, I would have skipped it on the summary, too. I mean, Snape as a fry cook in Arizona?
This was one of those stories that I, like many of you, would have skipped. Once I did read it, I admit I found the setting itself not convincing (and I had lesser but similar issues with the OCs, types I'm not entirely unfamiliar with *g*), but -- and this is a big but -- the writing and characterization beyond that were so truly excellent that I read on and am very glad I did. It was well worth the read despite my reservations.
