1. The cashier would really like to give you things for free.

However, the cashier hates giving you things at a discount. Free is easy. We had a Military Appreciation Week discount at the zoo where I sell tickets. Military and veterans, and their immediate families, were to be given free tickets, with I.D. However, because giving out the free ( Read more... )

I didn't know you people even had a two-dollar bill. Us? We got rid of it, and the one dollar bill, last century. We're on coins, now.

Two-dollar bills exist and are legal tender in the US. They are, however, extremely hard to find. That's why getting one was exciting. I got one on my first day and haven't seen one since.

There have been many attempts to introduce sensible dollar coins here, but they have never caught on. I have heard speculation that this is because they all feature either girls or George Washington, the latter making them easily mistaken for quarters and the former making them uniquely girly among American coinage. Also, vending machines won't tend to take them.

Personally, I think we should just stop minting pennies. They're stupid.

By not charging $4.93 for anything. And it'd take a while for all the existing pennies to go out of circulation; I'm saying we should quit making them, not abolish their use.

I used to call the cash register "the trenches" when I worked at the bookstore. That was where I *always* collected the most stupid people if I had to work up there.

You may now have personal reasons to be amused by this essay of mine:

This is a guide I wrote while working in the retail world on how to be a good customer. It is divided into sections, and the top one is how to be a good customer at the register. I'm sure that if you read it, you'll see plenty of examples of the customers you love to hate. . . .
