I'm getting awfully tired of not having an opinion on gun control, so I'm soliciting everybody else's opinions. For your convenience, here is a summary of my thinking up to this point on the subject.

Gun control in and of itself is a fallacy. Gun control, in its premise, only punishes those who legally obtain and utilize firearms. The illicit entities that commit a lot of these crimes do not care about control laws. They will get a firearm whenever, however, and from whomever they can ( ... )

In spite of its numerous problems, the amount of alcohol consumed in the United States really did go down during Prohibition.

And, statistically speaking, a handgun kept in the home for protection is far more likely to kill a family member than it is an intruder, or so I've heard. (And if an intruder suspects that you have a gun, he might be more inclined to shoot *you* - and he'll probably be able to shoot first, because he knows you're a danger and you'll take a moment to decide whether or not he's an intruder.)
