Do you necessarily have to be very good at drawing when you first learn to animate or is it basically like learning to draw again because you are drawing with the idea of making it move in mind? I would like to see some of those famous animators first projects if they had had to do them all on their lonesome and did not have a team behind them to ( Read more... )

Drawing a single picture and animating one use many of the same basic principles (construction/knowledge of form and movement, etc) so "regular" drawing skills are necessary/would make learning much easier. This is a bit simplistic, but I'd say animation skills are more "in addition" to the skills gained in drawing rather then separate.
