And I love the basic idea. It has everything in its plot to be a story of scary, twisted, loving, basic humanity, maybe some basic good winning over an iron fisted government control that sends your children to their deaths as a form of media …and the lack of emotion just kills it. LOL. I started reading them too (I'm on the 3rd) and I thought the exact same thing. She's totally always like "Hm. Guess that person's dead now. ...Moving on..." xD; I find myself muttering "what a bitch" to myself like... every other page. xD

I have to admit, when I first starting reading The Hunger Games, Katniss' starkly indifferent reactions to the deaths of those around her did throw me for a loop. What I'm thinking is that (I could be totally wrong about this) the indifference is a coping mechanism. Because of her father's death, she had to be responsible for her family, and thus was kind of "robbed" of a childhood. And the Hunger Games just takes the stakes up exponentially.

I'm on the 3rd one right now. I also saw the film. You're right, but that's what makes it so unique, more so then similar battle arena stuff like Battle Royale. And the 3rd one really has raised stakes and shocking events so high it's quite a gripping thriller. Enjoy!

I saw the movie, and didn't like it that much, because I kept wandering why the parents would allow their children to be killed as a form of entietent for the masses. I know its proabity because they themsevles grew up with Hunger games as a form of enteritemt, but still, so not sure if I want to rwad the books or not, but like the OP said the concept is awesome the exuction seems to be the porbllem
