The USA, tolerance, frustration, and annoyance.

I've posted this on other social networks and I'm now posting it here, with the addition of the Keith Olbermann's video, which I think is pretty powerfulIf there is one thing that drives me crazy, it's everyone out there who thinks that being gay is a "choice". As soon as I see someone say that, I know that I can't even reason with them because it ( Read more... )

It is a powerful video. In the second half though he gets too sentimental and his argument falls apart. Not having a marriage license does not prevent straight or gay people from falling in love and being in love or forming lifelong partner relationships. His line of reasoning sounds like people cannot be in love without the piece of paper.

It is much stronger in the beginning when he sticks to asking straight people why gay marriage threatens them.

I do agree with you about the second half.

Well I guess it is rough when people don't really understand you or like you (at least while they talk behind your back). But according to the New York Times Nov. 9th article about the passing of gay marriage bans (specifically California), they give us a new group to point fingers at as to why gays aren't winning their fight for "equality" this election cycle. Strikingly enough it would seem it's another group that claims ill treatment.

Here's a quick quote: "In California, where other races split more or less evenly on a same-sex marriage ban, some 70 percent of black voters contributed to its narrow victory."

Along the racist, biggoted, rich, fat, god lovin, and gun carrying white people vote it split 50/50 in Cali. Hmm, at least we know who not to shake our finger at this time.

I've read a lot of articles since then and I think it's somewhat interesting on how black people feel about it. I still can't grasp the idea of it being a "choice" but it seems most of them think that and therefor don't see it anywhere near similar to their struggle.

There is probably a lot I could say here, but I'll just leave it at this:
If you ever get married and need a groomsman don't be afraid to ask me.

I'm not sure I've ever really put into words how much it means (and has meant) to me regarding our friendship. I know you and I differ a lot regarding some beliefs, but when it comes down to that you've never let it cause any issues with our friendship. I've seen you change in a lot of ways since I first met you!

I was happy to be your groomsman and in a lot of ways was quite honored to do that. You've always been an amazing friend :)

Thanks for posting this, man!

You know after having the argument here in Iowa, having gay marriage legalized in Polk County for 4 hours, then having it yanked away again, my bf and I said screw it. We don't need a blessing from the state to say how we feel. I'd like to say we were blessed with a church that blessed our marriage, working for companies that recognize domestic partners (gay or straight), and signing papers that might as well say we're married (we have poa over each other). My only complaint is that I had to pay $100 to change my name. But I know others out there aren't as blessed and I'll still fight for it.

Prop 102 for the same thing passed in AZ. I'm disappointed there as well.

The thing is, there are still other things you don't get.. tax benefits, etc, so it's still not the same :\

And yeah, the propositions that passed elsewhere (and the ones before this election) are just as disappointed.. however, at least they didn't take away rights that were granted.
