they say that "fate doesnt wait. grab it by the balls and make it your bitch". have you ever heard this phrase or something similar? i have. and what i find quite perplexing about this little quote is that fact that it is somewhat of a contradiction. why im saying this, is that fact is that you can not make fate happen; it just does. like the time ( Read more... )

Well. In English, we're reading this book entitled "Bless Me, Ultima". In this book, Ultima is a curandera, which is a woman who cures with herbs and spices and other remedies as opposed to modern medicine.

Anywho, the lead character's uncle was sick and dying because he was cursed by a witch. Ultima says that she will help, but they need to understand something: "You must understand that when anybody, bruja or curandera, priest or sinner, tampers with the fate of a man that sometimes a chain of events is set into motion over which no one will have ultimate control. You must be willing to accept this responisibility."

When I read this, I was like, "dude, YEAH." So... If you want my opinion? Don't fuck with fate. Just go with the flow... And do what you feel is right at the time. You may kick yourself in the ass later, but that was fate. *shrugs*

but do you think that, in the situation i described, planning a "chance" meeting be messing with fate, or do you think that it was fate to plan this the whole time?

ok so here's how i look at all of this fate stuff: the human mind is a chemichal process. nothing more nothing less. therefore if one were able to determine exactly how all of the chemichals in our brain reacted with each other, took all the data of what the chemichal states of each person's mind was and fed it all into a computer, you'd be able to predict the future.

upon interacting with something in the universe the brain will react in a certain way. you will interact with others differently, and those people will interact differently after interacting with you. the result is a massive chain reaction of who changed who. you cannot control this. however you are still responsible for your actions because being aware of the consequences will change how you interact with the universe.

that's my take on it. i figured it out in philosophy class. but yeah, you can't control anything that happens to you, but you can control what you do to others.
