haha #8 and 9: do those have anything to do with french class yesterday?
and i agree with every single point on there. especially numbers 10, 11, 12, 1, and 2 (and 8 and 9, obviously). but i think it's just because we go to Gulliver that we see that a lot more than other teenagers. i mean, obviously, there are those kinds of people everywhere, but that stuff makes up a majority of the Gulliver population, so i guess we're more aware of it.
Oh Caro, before I wage war against you, you should know best that there are ways of sublimating those horrible and nasty little things people should be most hesitant at saying/doing. I being no exception, have decided to put prudence above all, and write a nice list, and by doing so letting out a bit of the frustration that comes from all these little things that you could call "pet-peeves" (sp?). In the other hand, were I to go ahead and attach a name to each of the enumerated "pet-peeves", or a few names for that, I would have war waged on me 10-fold. And for what? for a moment of honesty? Not worth my time or theirs, because from experience I've see that people that I've met here in school and in Miami can realize their crap habits/faults, but for some odd reason seldom do much about it. It's a bigger slap in the face when it comes to that. And I thought I was blindly stubborn...
I never claimed to be exempt from these faults, as you are the one who made the entry and not me. I wondered if your intentions were more prudence as opposed to passive lashing out. Does it make you feel better, or does the reaction you seek to elicit from others, whether recognition or obliviousness fuel the entry? I found it rather peculiar that this list came from you, seeing as you have so adamantly advocated straightforwardness in past, regardless of the consequences.
Not that you fit in any of the things on the list, and by "waging war" I didn't mean that or anything bad, that was more of a joke b/c there isn't much war to be waged. But I guess what you mean about being straightforward is true, and remains true. I put those things up because they are things that bother me, regardless of who they come from. Now, for me to come up with them it's most probably because I know of somebody who has complained about them, or because we've discussed them in some class lately, or because something just brought it to my mind and I felt that type of behavior did bother me. But it's not like there's a person that I would actually attach to the list. I'm not pointing fingers, it's just that those things bother me, sometimes even with a passion
( ... )
Hahaha I'm extremely guilty of 4 and the latter part of 11 for sure. Probably some of the others, too, but since I am so "oblivious," I will probably never know.
Would you please expand on #2? The way I'm interpreting it makes me think it's a good thing.
#2 Refers to a person who instead of living life simply and letting experience mold who they think they are, and later maybe articulate that into a lifestyle/philosophy, pre-emptively picks the philosophy/lifestyle they'll live by, and lets that mold their decisions, as if life presented itself in black/white multiple-choice formats. I.E. I decide I am humanist, or an objectivist, or a nihilist, etc. etc. and instead of letting experience decide what type of person I truly am by choice, will, and incidence, I already limit myself to what my "belief" system allows me, just because that's an absolutist set of guidelines that I believe are correct, as if one set of absolute guidelines prescribed by some school of thinkers/writers worked universally and transcendentally for all of humanity (especially at our age when we really can't contend that experience has showed us enough to decide that). But that's besides the point. Becky gets this one, I think she probably can explain it better.
Ahhh I think I see what you're saying. Very interesting- I had never seen that as a negative thing before, but I see your point.
As long as we're talking about pet peeves, it bothers me that you said that PEOPLE who do certain things bother you, as opposed to the actions themselves. Personally, I believe that a few minor flaws should not dictate whether or not you like someone.
You're right.aliencrs31March 22 2006, 03:51:01 UTC
I guess in most respects "When people do the following:" fits much better than "people", otherwise I'd have a lot of despising to do. But I guess it's that facet of people that I don't like. Now, obviously some of these are way more pet-peeves than others, while other points are clearly more of a social ineptitude and/or ignorance that affects my perception of a person much more. Like, it bothers me when a person chews ice just because I can't bare imagining the root canal they'll go through later, and to a smaller degree the crunching, but that's really minor. So I tell them, "My friend's dad had a root canal because he chewed ice; he said it was the most painful procedure he's ever undergone". But then there's other things. But seldom will one of those points drive me to not liking somebody.
Summarily, yes, you make a very good point, and consider the points changed in that respect.
