Guild Wars 2

I started playing Guild Wars 2, and am happy their questing system has broken with WoW's current quest design. As WoW grew they "simplified" and "streamlined" their questing into something that feels like it should be best described as "raming a railroad down their players throats ( Read more... )

On the plus side GW2 doesn't have a monthly subscription. (Which is why I was more willing to try it when some former workers started)

On the down side they currently lack any easy way of playing with friends on different servers. So the graph of people I know are kind of scattered around.

Are you currently playing anything?

Yeah, the pay once model is one of the reasons I stuck with GW1 for as long as I did. I only switched to WoW when I wanted to be able to play games with someone, but they had a Mac.

I'm not playing any games at this point, because I just don't have the time. If I did, though, MMORPG-wise, I'd be tempted to fire up Vanguard, because it's free to play now. I only played it for a short while, so there's still a lot to discover. Single-player-wise, I'd like to keep going with the Fallout 2 Restoration Project. I've played a few times over the past few years, but I haven't made it past New Reno yet.

They just released the GW2 Mac client.

I seem to end up playing MMOs as a way to get some social interaction without actually having to travel anywhere. Though I keep thinking there's other things that I should be doing as well.

I hope you can find some free time. Being too constantly busy gets tiring.

Hey, I'm loving GW2! I've a level 75 Sylvari Guardian. Awesome game, for all the reasons you mention and more! I love that the resource "nodes" anyone can get, it's not the "one person gets it and it goes away" model. Also, helping someone kill things, you don't have to be partied, and I think you get bonuses... and if a lot of people are around "veterans" show up that are harder, but you get more xp. Also the quests you're all helping each other, so there's never a fear of seeing someone show up but it's a JOY to see someone else around there.

Also, no running for your corpse. You have that "last stand" thing, and when you die you can "res" at a waypoint. If you wait though, someone might come along and revive you. And anyone can revive anyone, it's not a class or profession specific skill! So.. more awesome way to bring more of the Multiplayer cooperation aspect back!

Zero Punctuation described Guild wars as "The whole server's a party and everyone's invited".

I do like the last stand mechanic too.

I wonder how the upcoming event is going to go this weekend.

I also haven't tried their dungeons very much. (Have you?)
