It's still early when he walks out to the mailbox to get the mail- he's naturally a pretty early riser, and usually up before either mate (although Riza is never far behind him, thanks to military training), so he tends to be the one to collect things around in the morning, paper, mail, that sort of thing. (That and the mail is usually bills, which is his responsibility anyway.)
He's back inside before what he's looking at really registers in his sleep-adled mind.
Suddenly, the chair he was standing next to seems like a very good place to sit. Hard.
"What is this, some kind of joke?" he growls quietly, flipping over the letters, looking for some sort of return address, or a phone number, or something.
There has to be a way to get ahold of her.

It took her several read throughs for the words to sink in, and her vision blurred over as she studied the second paragraph. It was completely unexpected and out of the blue and seemed too good to be true.
But still, the odds of it being some sort of a scam or trick didn't prevent the words written from causing her throat to tighten and her eyes to grow wet. What to do about it, though... that was the problem. She tucked the letter away and retreated to her room to compose herself and figure out the best way to bring it up with Edward.
