I'm trying to remember which movie it was -- it might have been The Empire Strikes Back -- that David Gerrold reviewed with the line, "Oh, I liked it. I just didn't like it enough."

The appropriate term is "damning with faint praise", I believe.

It's a pity, because I really was prepared to like the pic. I loved the second one and was really hoping the third would keep the momentum going. But I have to admit I was dubious about the sheer number of bad guys being stuffed into the film like so much wet cornbread into a turkey. I was hoping my fears were misplaced, but, no. In this case, my fears had pin-point, laser-targeting rifle precision.

I'm hoping the other big spectacle flicks fare better. Especially PoTC. I have high hopes for that one. The trailers are simply mouth-watering and I have a deep affection for the series so far.

So, have you actually seen S3 yet? As I said, it's not a complete waste of time and money. I just wouldn't necessarily run to see it, if you've better things to do. And I wouldn't bother with it twice. But if you're curious and in the mood for something amusing and shallow, it'll do.

Other things: 1) do you mind if I mention your "300" review on the IMDb forum?
2) Have you yet been to http://community.livejournal.com/godawful_fanfic/ ? There's actual progress being made, it seems, or at least something that looks like progress.

Good gawd, I had no idea there even was a GAFF LJ! Damn, makes Guru look all serious about it, doesn't it? Sort'a sucks you in and everything.

Sorry, call me jaded after a year+ of total inaction, but I'll believe GAFF is really back in business when the forums are, in fact, up and moving again. Still, I think I may join just out of curiosity.

As for your "priorities", oddly enough (or not) they coincide with my own. A pack of my friends and I will be tramping off to The Bridge to see PoTC3. After having seen several preview specials, I'm madly excited.

Re: The 300 review. Go right ahead. Maybe somebody will actually even read it. ;-)
