Yikes! My mother had quite the close call.

My mom and I drove up to Virginia together (but in separate vehicles) before Christmas. She stayed with my brother and his family while Jason (who flew up after New Years) and I drove back home

wow, she's very lucky!

Unfortunately the power company probably won't give her a break, they usually don't care if the gas is wasted or used (unless it's a leak on their end..and even then they may not comp it). The best she can probably hope for is a payment plan for the larger bill, but who knows, maybe they'll be nice. Stranger things have happened..
