today at work we were playing the allmusic.com connections game where you start with one artist and try and get to another just via the "influenced by", "similar" and "covered songs by" links. so chris went "alright, start with the smiths and get to madonna" and i was thinking just get to sonic youth cos they covered her, and so i got it in five

I meant to ask when I saw you earlier- how do you get from the Smiths to Madonna in four?! Tragically enough, it's been annoying me all day. Is the Sonic Youth thing a red herring? Is it? Is it?

i actually phrased my initial entry badly - should have said:

anyway, it was
smiths - kirsty maccoll - dido - lisa stansfield - madonna. gotta give crixxxle credit for improvisation.

i went smiths - bowie (i think) - velvet underground - sonic youth - ciccone youth - madonna. it was quite harsh to make me go to ciccone youth i thought.

Yes, quite harsh indeed. I would never have thought of Dido. I think that's where I was going wrong. :)
