I just wrote a Matrix drabble. What the hell?
Title: Heat
Author: Alina
Spoilers: Events from the early months of the Matrix Online involving character death. They're ages old, but I don't know if anyone follows MxO's story (This is really the only event that stuck with me when I actually followed the story).
Rating: G
Characters: Niobe / Morpheus
Disclaimer: The Matrix franchise was created by the Wachowski Brothers and is operated by Warner Brothers. The Matrix Online is run by Sony and Sega, I believe.
The first week after the war, Niobe and Morpheus barely saw each other. Each was too embroiled in meetings, in discussions, in celebrations, and sheer exhaustion to make the effort. Every night, Niobe would walk into her quarters and promptly collapse onto her bed, already asleep by the time her head met her pillow. Each morning, she would awake to shivers since she would always neglect to grab a blanket before surrendering to sleep.
After one late-night Council meeting that they both happened to attend, she insisted that he stay in her room. He was too tired to make it to his own without help, and she was too tired to assist. Niobe offered Morpheus her chair, and collapsed onto her bed as usual.
When she woke up the following morning, they were together, entwined, each basking in the other's heat. She didn't complain about his forwardness.
It quickly became a hard habit to break.
Time passed. As the truce continued to hold, however tentatively, her good humor rose. She smiled more, slept better than she had in years, even when she had returned to the Logos and the Matrix. Morpheus' warmth lingered in her body, tingling the tips of her fingers with a reminder whenever she shivered.
And then Morpheus was assassinated.
The only heat that comes close to matching his now is the one generated by her thirst for revenge.
