happy white towels

I'm a technology phobe, so using my digital camera is kind of a challenge for me.  I've mastered the point-and-shoot option, but the more technical aspects of the 100-page manual escape me.  The point-and-shoot mode was not up to the task of taking photos of my completely white, low contrast weaving projects.  So today (since I was postcall and ( Read more... )

thank you! The towel for Belphoebe was actually the first piece I've given away. I usually fixate too much on the flaws to want to give my work to someone else.

I fixate on my flawed work too, but these are beautiful, functional objects that do cross the line between real and costume.

Woolen yarn/staple felts better than worsted yarn/staple. Unfortunately I don't think many places catering to craft folks even classify their fibers this way...and I've had trouble finding a good source of woolen yarns for weaving. Worsted wears better and felts less, which of course makes it popular for modern weavers but the reverse of what I want!

Have you really beaten the crap out of it? Even worsteds should felt at least a little when massively abused in hot and cold water. (The first time I did it to some handwoven cloth I thought I was going to puke. I was sure I'd ruin it!)

Fulling is what I mean. I'm really tired, but I promise I do know the difference between felting and fulling...

I love towels. I like the portraits of servants and workingwomen with towels thrown over their shoulders. When I remember to bring one of my towels to an event I like to wear it. It makes me feel prepared for major domestic emergencies!

I absolutely adore that towel, and I can't believe that you wove it for me! It's so very special! :-)
