New Stuff

So this journal was supposed to be about my SCA projects, and then I got busy with the various projects and forgot to update the silly thing.  So, I will forget about doing an update from the last year.. and start with what I'm working on now.

I need to finish up Sophia's new dress, and possibly make her a couple others in the same style.  They're ( Read more... )

You are doing so much better than I am, and I don't have a little one around!

I haven't dared try any new foods here, because Hubby just doesn't appreciate that sort of thing. I will be helping with our Elizabethan Mistletoe Revel's feast next December. We're going to try playing with sugar plates. Wheee!

If I were you're size, I might be more bold at making clothes, but I'm all for sideless surcotes and tunics. :D

It's too bad you don't live near Philadelphia. There are some awesome discount fabric stores with really impressive prices. I got seven yards of brocade for $21. 100% wool can be had for $3-$6 a yard.

I have seen some very impressive blackwork done with a machine, so go for it! If it passes the 10 foot rule, and it's not for competition, and the person doesn't care, then you're doing just fine.

My next project is a blackwork book cover for a competition. How I got talked into this is beyond me. *whimper*

You know, I have this great recipe for sliced chicken on toast with a garlic cheese sauce that I bet your husband wouldn't even know was medieval. I also have a great plum pie recipe that Sophia and Jim thought was amazingly tasty. Another one that was amazingly good was a plum sauce for beef. I used short ribs with it, but I think it would be amazing on a roast. Let me know if you're interested!

I wish I did live there! We have a decent fabric warehouse type place up in the cities, but that's 2 hours away and I just don't get up there very often. In Rochester we're limited to Jo-Ann's, Hancock and a local MN store. The local MN store tends to be the best of the three, but you never know what you're going to get there.

It's over an hour for us to go to Philly, but we make a day out of it and car pool. We go to Jo Mar's, then eat lunch and then hit Ikea. Maybe you should get together with others in your area and do the same?

Oh, do post the recipes. I'd like to try all those things... drool... going to eat dinner now.

Check out the recipes here - http://cookalong.blogspot.com/

I've got all my redactions of the period recipes here and you can see my thoughts on them. I did redo my plum pie and I suppose I should go in and do an edit on that post, because I was much happier with the second version where I used a store bought pie crust and whisked two tempered eggs into the filling before I baked it. I thought it made the wine a little mellower and brought the whole recipe together.
