Someone loaned me a paperback reference book that was in like-new condition and I got a crease in the cover and a few wrinkles on a couple pages. Should I replace the book? :(

It would probably be nice to offer, but I wouldn't just do it without asking them first. They might be fine with it not being replaced.

Yeah, I looked really quick at half.com to see about buying one in good condition but then realized it'd be really kind of weird to try to do the bait-and-switch. Sigh, I wish I were better with my stuff, this is kind of embarrassing!
