Call out to the Cat Owners on my FL

Jul 09, 2009 12:50

So the kitten has once again torn open my arm from too rough playing. Until I get afford to get her a friend, I need to find something that will keep me from throwing her off the roof and not caring if she lands on all fours or not ( Read more... )

I'm always very...wary about anything like this. It's tons better than de-clawing but people forget that a cat's claw is actually part of it's toe. Messing with them effects their sense of touch. Think of it in human terms as putting thimbles on all your fingers and saying 'go ahead, do normal stuff'.

The best say of dealing with it would to be sort of why she's too rouch in the first place. Because the soft pads won't get rid of the underlying problem, just paint over it. I'm happy to help you out with any behavioural stuff.

she's a 9 month old kitten who plays like this. She doesn't scratch the furniture or anything else. Just thinks this is how to "play" not matter how many times I say no, shout in pain, "play dead" with my arm, hiss at her to show my disliking, or walk away.

The kitten book says she needs a friend, which I know will solve it. but i can't afford another cat until I move in August. She did this just when I was trying to take off her collar. And I fear what scrapes the ferret might have from her too.

Sometimes a friend works. If she's young enough, and at 9 months, she should be, they should be able to work together well. They tend to have complicated social groups like:
Cat A and Cat B get along, Cat C gets along with cat A but not Cat B and so on. That usually stand with older cats though, who have had time to set in their ways.

Hmm, might be an idea to supervise her with the ferret, just in case anything happens. I know you probably are, but if she's that bouncy, she could easily overdo it.

like I said above, it's a short term solution I need until I can find her a friend. I already know that's the long way. I jsut need to move into a new place and save money up for adoption fees.

and I already do. She's pretty good with him but sometimes she gets excited. He's also very good at hiding when she gets excited.

What TF said - but also it forces their claws to stay extended, and that kinda ouches. If it's short term (like, only a couple months) it SHOULD be okay, but maybe another solution would be to use those wavy wand things, she can pounce on and wrap her claws around that all she likes without scratching you up. I've gotten clawed up a few times by mine as well, but find that helps a lot for them to get their wiggles out and then they settle and curl up in the lap instead.

Best luck - and when new kitty comes,it'll both settle down ANDget crazier!:)
