I went to Egypt over new year a couple of years ago with my parents, their best friends and my brother. We were there for over a week and ate in restaurants/hotels/a boat one day and none of us got ill at all and we weren't particularly careful at all. Considering my dad is almost always ill because he's a coeliac and my brevat uncle has had a long history of stomach problems, I think that's pretty impressive. I think you have to be more careful on one of those tourist boats (we stayed in hotels in Cairo and Luxor) but I don't think you are any more likely to get ill there than anywhere else particularly. We had an absolutely fab time and I'm sure you will too - if you have any other questions, let me know!
Thanks for the reassurance :-). I don't know why it is that just before you go on holiday some people seem to delight in regaling you with tales of stomach upsets, flight delays, lost luggage etc!!
Do you have to take malaria tablets for Egypt? I ahd to take ones in South America and they were antibiotics (which I didn't realise until later, but I didn't get one instance of upset stomach in 3 months travelling.
You only need them for one particular bit of Egypt, which I'm not going to. I did think about South America, actually, but because I'm limited as to time I decided to go for somewhere with a shorter flight :-)!
