I am reminded of the famous quote from Bill Hayden in 1983, when he was ousted for the more popular and in this case, successful, Bob Hawke, that a drover's dog could have won the election. Surely this time has come again

I don't understand it either. I guess that Labor has lost the union-style imperative to follow what the majority decides, and don't have the "iron fist" kind of forced unity that the Right has. It's disappointing that they can't keep it together.
