1. more free books 2. it reads PDF's (even more FREE books!) 3. if you have a problem with it, you can actually take it to a store and show someone the problem and deal with them face to face
I keep debating getting an iPad as my book reader - it seems pretty no brainer to get a lot more functionality at not a lot more cost, and the fact that there is a Kindle app for iPad means that I'd still be able to read books formatted that way on a nice, big 9" screen.
Of course, I'm personally waiting for the price to go down after the initial surge to make any sort of "real" decision.
the IPad actually makes a really bad e-reader. The screen is backlit, which causes eyestrain when reading. It's a great movie viewer and web tool, but not great for reading novels per se.
At this point, I wouldn't buy an ebook unless you have $150 to blow. The kindle has all the functionality of the nook. I personally have had serious problems with B&N and their "customer service" so I would never ever recommend the Nook. But that's my experience with that company. I've had nothing but positive experiences with Amazon.
If t'were me, I'd simply save up a bit more and get an iPad or another tablet which will probably be out w/in the next two years. Kindle has full functionality on computers (including apple) so I can carry over all the books I've purchased AND would be able to watch Hulu or movies etc.
Anyway, kindle all the way IMO. I like that there's a kindle application for my PC and phone (I don't use it on my phone but some people may like that). That being said, if you went with a Nook it's not like you've made a bad choice. As Chris said, it is very much six in one, half dozen another.
And I don't really know anyone who was disappointed with either. :)

I'm thinking I don't need 3G, I have a blackberry with unlimited data..
So thus far the $150 nook is the most attractive option..
Whats ePub?
