Alone in a world without love...

I'd been on the phone with AT&T for about an hour when my Jehova's Witness came in. I told the lady on the phone that she could hold while I discussed creation vs evolution, but it was going to be a while. He didn't even seem to notice that I was on the phone, he just started right in ( Read more... )

I'm pretty sure dolphins can feel love. No totally conclusive proof, since love is so hard to quantify, but most of the things that go into love are present in dolphins.

Half the time I'm not sure I can feel love... maybe I need to read the bible. ;P

Some species of animals are monogamous, kinda like people in love... but we know that's just another instinct... I'm sure it's in the bible somewhere.

Monogamy is an instinct, but dolphins aren't always monogamous. The bible would tell you they have no souls, yes, at least many versions... but a lot of the same brain business that's associated with love in Humans (to be so clinical) is also present in dolphins, and dolphin behaviours, even in situations of non-monogamy, reflect human reactions to love and loss of loved ones. That's what I meant.

I can tell you more about brain chemicals than I can about souls. XDDDD

This is so interesting, I wish I had a witness talking to me about creationism and soulless animals. Well, I do to have a friend who's a ... something christian. I forget the denomination. But we haven't really discussed religion in ages.

The only reason I don't do it with the jehova's witnesses that come to my door is because they're very pushy once you let them in. Like they'll come back in numbers and insist they come in again often pushing their way in. It's scary :p

Are they like that over there?

Last week I was reading Fareed Zakaria's new book The Post-American World, and I thought of you.

He quotes the Rig Veda, what he calls "Hinduism's most important text:"

Who really knows, and who can swear,
How creation came, when or where!
Even gods came after creation's day,
Who really knows, who can truly say
When and how did creation start?
Did He do it? Or did He not?
Only He, up there, knows, maybe;
Or perhaps, not even He.
