The two of them constantly had a chess game going in the rec room. It was a habit they had fallen into here, chess, and as at home, sometimes the game lasted hours and sometimes it lasted weeks. The current one was going on four days

Donald had been avoiding this. He'd been avoiding all of it since the party, his friends from home. Supposed friends from home. He didn't know what to make of anything or anyone anymore. Still, there were things that needed to be said, about Peter, if nothing else.

He gave Anthony a nervous smile as he seated himself across from the other. "Dutch defense, isn't it?"

Anthony had been staring at the board, but he hadn't been truly looking at it. He had been waiting.

But he didn't look up quite yet when Donald sat across from him. He blinked twice, letting the pieces swim into focus. "It seems so," he answered carefully.

He glanced about the board, nodding at the formation. Without any real thought he moved a piece. "Distracted?"

"No," Anthony answered pointedly, his tone brokering no further discussion on that topic.

There was a long pause. "You had an argument with Guy." It wasn't a question.
