DJ has been grounded for the last two weeks because of his grades slacking from B's to F's. He has had his TV taken away, and his X-box taken, even had to take his stereo from his room too. All because he won't complete his homework and turn it in. This frustrates me so much, but at the same time I know he's going through alot right now. So anyway ( Read more... )

I hate to say it, but DJ's prob sounds a lot like what I went through in school....has he ever been tested for ADD?

yeah, he has, He is 14, and when he was about 7 they said he had ADD. He lacks in organization, general motivation, (unless it's a project he is interested in) and short term memory. He really excells at any type of hands-on, physical learning. I have another boy, my youngest,James, who is 10 and he has ADHD. The diffrence is night and day. there's a lot of great resources on how to help kids with ADD w/school work. I literally had to relearn how to take tests, study& do homework.
Talk to his school councilor& see if there's any local groups or tutors that specialize in ADD learning. I went from barely scraping by to A+ by the following year. ^_^

what did you change? How did you change the way you learned? How did you find the help you needed? He has been to see his counselor, even had a meeting with the principal and his teacher that he was having the most difficulty with. That was last year.
