Who: Everyone What: Fourth of July Celebration Where: The Winchester Homestead || Northwest side of the city When: Evening of the fourth. Rating: PG-13, let's keep it at least a little kid-friendly.
[It's like a pull - the guy in the corner, just watching. Looks like a mess of a business man that just got off the longest shift of his life. Of course, Greed's pulled to it. Can't help himself, really. The guy sure looks like he could use a good ruffling, anyway.]
[The homunculus cracks open a beer with his teeth - pulls the tab back then spits it out.] Looks like you're having a blast.
[The angel blinks at Greed, immediately aware he isn't quite human. There's a lot of non-human beings here though, of course, and he doesn't give it much thought past that. He offers a bare shrug in response.] I enjoy watching people. [Humans are endlessly fascinating to him, even after so much time around them.]
Fascinating, I'm sure. [So, there goes one theory. Which only makes Greed more curious. He saddles up next to Castiel and takes a good ol'swig of his beer. Lets a bit dribble down his chin before casting it off with his wrist. Behind his shades, he eyes the angel. Let's his gaze trail up and down.] What about them catches your interest? You want to be like them? Fit in? Guessing you're not from the same stock.
[Those comments, combined with the way Greed looks him up and down, are enough to make him reconsider the other man with a long pause and a thoughtful swig of his own drink.] They're beautiful and unpredictable. [His voice holds a hint of reverence. No, he doesn't want to be human, but he does love humans, even if humanity as a whole still confuses him most of the time.
He's long past attempting to hide what he is ever since Gabriel arrived and showed he had about as much subtly as a car crash and since he and Dean decided to drop their cover-story of being FBI agents so there's no hesitation to his next words.] Not from the same stock is an understatement, since I'm an angel.
[The homunculus takes a step back, winds himself up into a knot. He's all smiles, shark-teeth clicking together. Oh, that's news he both wants and doesn't want to hear. Gabriel had been good on his word, kept his promises, informed him of anything he should know about. And, according to him, there was another Solider of Heaven here. What luck.]
[He pushes up his sunglasses with his index finger and thumb, slouches his shoulders. Angels - an interesting business indeed. Not his stock, not anyone's stock. A total cut above the rest. And wow, was the description right on. Boring, plain. Yet, the smiting hadn't started, which Greed's thankful for.] Another one, huh. [A slow release and Greed's shoulders arc back. His smile cuts and jerks to one side of his face.] I'm not doubting that. Impressive creatures, you lot.
[The beer touches his lips again and he swallows a few gulps down noisily.] So, let me guess. You're this Cas I've heard about. Did I hit it on the money? [He waves his hand, laughs as jovial as possible.] I'm not here to
( ... )
[Castiel watches him closely, intently, but no, he doesn't move to smite. Why would he? He has no reason to. There are none here he would go out of his way to hurt -- as long as nothing happens to the few people he's grown close to (Dean, Darcy, Gabriel, Alice) there's no problem.
He has no doubt Gabriel's been talking about him, and he can only imagine the things his brother might've said. He loves Gabriel, he really does, but sometimes he just wants to beat him. He nods in confirmation.] Castiel, yes. [He tilts his head ever so slightly.] And you must be Greed.
[Oh? Someone's been talking, apparently. Greed touches a hand to his throat, makes a laugh of it. Oh, if that isn't just flattery.] The one and only. Though, the fact that you know about me is a little strange. Someone's been talking, or have you been paying attention? [He turns his head away, throws the beer-free hand in the air, cuts right into Castiel's personal space. A gesture of a handshake, even if it is a little seedy.] Pleasure, really. You know, your brother said you'd be no fun, but I'm thinking he's got you all wrong.
[A shrug of his shoulders, he takes another sip of his beer. When it's right and done, he tosses it to the ground, crunches it flat under the heel of his boot.] You know, before we get down to the basics of this - you angel, me sin - I'd like to say that greed is really neither good nor bad. Everyone wants something, don't they Castiel?
I pay attention. [Really, what else does he have to do beyond watching the feeds for anything interesting? When Greed extends his hand, the motion sharp, he eyes it for a moment before extending his own and clasping Greed's firmly.] My brother talks too much. [It might be a complaint but it's also laced with thinly-veiled affection.]
[He tilts his head a little further, frowning slightly.] Of course. Wanting is a basic human emotion. If no one wanted anything there'd be no point to life.
Angels - full of damn surprises! [He takes that hand, thank you very much. Grips tight and gives a firm shake. When he releases, he can't help the broadening of his grin, can't help the turn-up of his eyebrows.] He really gave me a nasty picture of you. Glad you're not what the rumors had to offer. [He claps him on his back then moseys on back to his own space, giving Castiel plenty of room.]
Basic - I guess so. Everyone needs, wants, desires. Makes the world go 'round. From the simple pleasure of keeping loved ones safe, to the more luxurious things. Glad we see eye to eye on that. [He snaps at him.] Definitely better in person.
[Oh hey, look. He's got two more beers on the side line. He scoops down to grab them, cracks one open with his teeth again. Shrugs and offers Castiel the other.] Drink to that?
[The clap isn't an unfamiliar gesture; Dean does it to him often enough. It's the mention of Gabriel giving a nasty picture of him that has him lifting both eyebrows.] Do I want to know what he's been saying?
[Cas has almost finished his own drink, so before accepting the one Greed offers he quickly downs the rest and sets it aside.] It's even basic animal emotion; the want for shelter, food, a mate. [Righting his head, he leans against the railing of the deck, holding out the proferred drink in a mimicry of toasting. He's seen Dean do it before.]
Just that'd you might smite me on the spot. [Casual grins all around, Greed takes a swig of his fresh beer. Lets it fizz at the top.] Guess he was wrong, wasn't he? [He pulls down his shades just a hair, let's them soak up Castiel a bit more. Angels: the whole bunch of them were a mystery.]
Basic human emotion, yet it's a cardinal sin according to the good book. One of seven. [He taps the side of his beer tan with his fingers.] Guess that's some way of keeping law and order, right? Contain all desire. Bah. [It's all BS to him.] But I guess if an angel of lord can come up with a compromise like that, it can't be all that bad, right?
Because you carry the namesake of avarice? [He's going to have to talk to Gabriel about what he tells people. Seriously. Cas shakes his head.] I don't smite without reason.
[The continued scrutiny doesn't bother him. Shifting his weight slightly, he pops the tab on the beer and takes a drink before responding again.] The bible was written by man, not God. I'm probably not the best angel to listen to, though. My superiors would say I've been among humans too long, that I've been compromised with emotion. [And he wouldn't deny it.]
Correction - [Greed finishes off his second beer, crushes it under a boot again.] - I am avarice. It's not just a name, you know. Living embodiment, etc. [Because everyone's heard the rant, he holds back this time.] Good to know - wouldn't want to make it a third time.
[A curious glance at Castiel is what is given. Greed spreads his legs, bends over just a little bit to get a better look at the guy.] Maybe that's what you all need - seems to be working for your brother. All work and no play makes a dull one out of us all. [Shrugs, tilts back and enjoys the view of the sky.] I've never been one to follow orders. Always rebel. Worked for me in the long run - why listen to someone else if they've got it completely wrong?
[That has Castiel pausing. The incarnate of avarice. Not just a name, but the embodiment. He can see, if that's the case, why Gabriel might think he'd be inclined to smite without hesitation. He's a different angel now though, no longer under Heaven's rule. No, they lost him when they tried to kill Dean, when they deceived him.
There's a twitch of lips -- the barest of a smile.] Gabriel has been among humans much longer than myself. [He lifts his beer, but doesn't drink. Instead he gently swirls the liquid in the can, gaze fixed somewhere off in the yard.] Rebeling for a good reason is one thing; rebeling just to rebel invites trouble. If I had rebeled sooner... [Now he takes a drink, as his eyes briefly flit to Dean's form.] I don't know where I'd be. [It's an uncomfortable thought, that. What if he'd never pulled Dean from the pit? He was following orders then.]
[The homunculus listens in silence and moves a little closer to Castiel, if not just to share the moment. He's watching the skyline and the sun setting makes the stark-silver of his sunglasses turn brilliant golds. He understands Castiel and for a moment, he feels like it's the perfect opportunity.]
Let me tell you something, Cas - can I call you Cas? [Greed's right up at his side, head brought down in order to keep the moment private.] The more and more I've talked to your kind, the more I think we understand each other. [Because he doesn't know the guy, doesn't have strings attached. Castiel is being open, why shouldn't he?]
[Greed catches the glance and his lips close. Tight smile this time, his teeth are absent.] I rebelled because I couldn't live in anyone's shadow, but you know what? I made the right decision. Sure, my avarice runs deep and that's what pushed me. But if I hadn't? I wouldn't have made my own life, wouldn't have been able to choose what I wanted. And I got a new itch to scratch out there on my own - got a taste
