I've never seen a city without those things. Not in all of my travels. Even the smallest of towns have those structures in them, at least the shells of where they once were, because they are important.

Precisely. And the lack of them runs rather counter to the idea of this place as a real settlement of any kind, wouldn't you agree?

I agree, entirely. Which suggest that these things were not important to those who built Aliunde. Which suggests in turn that there was no need to teach the children, no need for religious guidance, and no need to actively govern the people.

And generally, lawless chaos is the last thing you want in an isolated settlement like this one. Yet aside from a basic police force that seems more like the enforcers of the dictator du jour than any sort of actual peacekeepers...

In fact, outside the 'police' and this 'M,' there's nothing even resembling government.
