[ Kaylee sits bundled up in a coat and scarf on a bench near the apartment building she now calls (a temporary) home. At her feet is a basket of what looks like nothing but a tangled mass of useless parts salvaged from the junkyard. At least that is how it would look to others. To Kaylee it is a basket of potential. Potential for what she isn't entirely sure of yet. But it has potential. Not to mention it gives her something to do as there is no ship for her to work on. No crew to help or make things for.

She could have done the same thing inside, nice and warm, but the snow is still a novelty to her and from her view on the bench she can see people walking by. She tugs on a wire, pulling it loose as she glances out at the ones shuffling by and wondering what stories they all have. ]

[To say Ezio is curious is an understatement and, after throwing himself off a high point in the city and landing with grace, Ezio approaches carefully, sitting beside her on the bench. He glances down into the box then smirks slightly. She's just what he needs. Someone like Leonardo, like Yusuf and Piri Reis, who can make his designs.]

That is a large box of scrapped things, amico. Are you planning to make something in particular?

Ai ya! [ And this would be Kaylee, far less gracefully dropping the scrap part on her lap with a yelp of surprise as she hadn't heard the man - older man - come up to her and sit. It takes her a moment to get her heart out of her throat and the part off her lap before it tumbles off. ] How'd you do that? Come up all sneaky like.

An' what's "amico"?

It is part of my trade. Mi dispiace, I did not mean to startle you. [He smiles lightly, charmingly, and shakes his head a little.]

Amico means friend, just a nice thing to call someone.

[ With that charming smile it's heading straight back into familiar ground. So she slowly smiles back. ] Are ya some kinda thief? Gun hand? [ ... maybe not, given his clothes. He's not dressed like any shooter she's ever seen. ]

Oh. Well that's real nice of ya. It sounds like such a real fancy language too. Amico [ Way to go mister. ] I'm Kaylee. [ She holds out her hand but belatedly realizes it's all dirty and her smile turns more sheepish than cheery. ]

[He laughs a little. Well, she's close, at least.] Not exactly. Something different.

[He smiles more at that and nods faintly.] It is Italian. I am from Italia. [He takes her hand anyway. He's held dirtier hands in the past.] Salve, Kaylee. I am Ezio. [He nods to the box again.] What are you making?

Oh? ... well I should've guessed. You're dressed too fancy to be some plain ol' mercenary. Unless they're just as fancy in Italia ... 's that a city? [ No clue, no clue. But it must be fancy. Everything fancy. ] 's nice meetin' ya Ezio. [ Cue accompanying smile. ]

This? I don't got a clue. [ She laughs. ] But I think it'll be somethin' good. Right now I'm just seein' what I got. Like this- [ She holds out the part in her hands to show him. ] all I see wrong with it is this bit in here. [ She pokes a finger in one side, which really is the worst looking side upon closer inspection. ] Bit of burnt wirin', probably went an' spooked someone an' they junked this. But all the rest of this - the metal, these other wires what don't go through that particular bit of circuitry - all of it's usable. I just gotta pick it off.

It is a country. Italy. It is in Europe. [Ezio listens to her and smiles at her enthusiasm, glad she has it. She seems perfect to build his designs far better than he ever could.]

You are... very enthusiastic about your work. It shows talent. You would do well if someone were paying you for all of your efforts.

Europe [ And now he finally says something that's a little familiar. A little. Maybe. ] ... ain't that on Earth-that-Was?

[ She shrugs slightly, all smiles. ] I've always liked doin' this kinda stuff. Ever since I was real small an' my pa had to go pullin' me outta things. 'fore this place snatched me up I was gettin' pay for keepin' Serenity flyin'. When there was pay to give.

[He raises a single brow but nods.] Si, I suppose so.

[He smiles right back.] You have a great enthusiasm. If I were to show you designs, would you be able to craft them? Or improve upon them?

[ She nods. Now it ALL makes sense. And she seems to be finding all the Earth-that-Was former dwellers. It works for her. They have so many stories. And when she gets back to Serenity she can wow everyone with her amazing (and obviously biased and skewed) Earth-that-Was knowledge. Shiny! ]

Oh I could. I go improvin' stuff all the time on Serenity when times are slow ... or I gotta work 'round not havin' the proper parts. [ Coming from her it's just a cheerful telling of the truth, not bragging. ] ... designs for what?

[Ezio stands at her question, giving her a warm smile. She really does seem to be a very talented person. Just what he needs.]

Come with me, and I will show you. [He offers his hands for the box.]

[ She blinks up at him. ] Now? [ There's something about him that's really persuasive though. It really does seem like a great idea to go now and see exactly what the man has in mind to be built. So she stands, drops what she had been working on top of everything else and lifts the box to place it in his hands. ] 's kinda heavy. [ Understatement. But she's used to heaving things around so it doesn't phase her. ]

Si, now. [He chuckles at the warning and lifts the box a little more, getting it comfortable in his hold and beginning to lead the way.] You have a talent and enthusiasm for crafting things that I have only ever seen before in one man.

[ She sticks close by him, occasionally glancing around to orient herself so she can find her way back to the apartment building. ] I do? Really? Did he go makin' you things ... the stuff from the designs?

Si, he made a great many things. He was a painter, too. You may not have heard of him. His name was Leonardo da Vinci. [He smiles softly at the name he says.] He was able to create things designed centuries before our time, and he built many great machines. Things I have a suspicion you could built or even improve.

[He leads her to his apartment and once he's there he sets the box down safely aside, moving to where he keeps the book Sofia gave him. One of the first things he did was redraw all of Altair's designs.]

Sit, make yourself comfortable, amico.
