[Vanille's walking along the shore, watching the waves and looking up at the stars as they slowly appear in the night sky. Aliunde isn't too bright that you can't see the stars at night, but out in the climate zones the sky is even clearer. It's nice to get out and just appreciate nature sometimes. The city's nice, but Vanille misses her home at times.]
Yes, ma'am...people in Aliunde seem okay to talk to. And, um, if your home is better than here, I'd rather go with you. [She's leaving out a step of her logic that she sees as the norm.]
[Alarm grows within her, but she tries to stay calm.] ...I did have a few friends, but, um, it's not so simple to stay in touch. [Amelie leans in closer to her friend.] Once people are separated by distance--and, um, it's always sheer distance, it's worse than across portals--your friends are gone. Almost gone forever. It's because of the chaos...S-so, my friends back home? They're temporary. J-just like Feferi was.
[She sighs quietly, almost a whimper.] It's you or Dad.
[Amelia's shoulders relax, and her breathing slows.] ...I do. [She sighs.] But, we haven't spoken in a long time, and-- [Her eyes close and she lowers her head.] V-Vanille, there are other people there. A-and, my house is nothing special. So, um, I don't know why I should go back, instead of following you, or, um, anyone from a very nice world...if it's not too much trouble.
It's not important, I wouldn't want to worry you. [Because telling Amelia that Vanille's either going to turn into crystal or a monster when she gets back home is probably not the best way to reassure her friend.] It's a nice place for normal people, but... I'm not exactly normal.
It sounds awful, then...whatever it is that's making things hard for you, um, I hope it'll get better. [She pats Vanille's hand. How do you sympathize with vague awfulness?]
It's okay! My friends and I are going to fix it and everything will be...all right. [Fighting gods, saving the world, just another day for Vanille and her crew.]
Thanks. [Vanille appreciates the support, even if Amelia doesn't know exactly what's going on.] So if...if you came back to my world, what would you do?
[Amelia reaches to rub Vanille's back with one hand, in an attempt at comforting.] I'm not sure. Um, the same thing I tried after being taken here? Find a job, get a house...try to handle the culture shock. [She sighs quietly.] I-it depends on what goes on in your world.
I'm not too sure myself, honestly. I'd been gone so long the whole world's completely changed. [She leans against Amelia.] I hadn't really had time to readjust before I was brought here.
