[Hello Aliunde, there is a somewhat disgruntled woman with the fakest of smiles on her face, glaring daggers at the screen, chin propped up in one hand.]

Is this where I say that I'm ever so grateful for waking up with my kidneys intact and not a mark on me? Oh wait, that would be Cedric because he's an idiot. Look, there are things I want and need ( Read more... )

I don't think any of your friends are here, miss. [At least, not that Vanille recognizes.]

[Damn that is some bright hair and look at her with no sunglasses.]

Corbin isn't a friend, exactly, he's more [she takes a moment to pause in thought because what on earth is he to her really, she's never quite had to define it in the past] I suppose he's more like a responsibility that was dumped in my lap where he helps me out and I try [admittedly not very hard at all] to keep him in line.

Sounds like a friendship to me. [Vanille has a very lose definition of friendship. If you say hi to her on the street you count as a friend.]

You're just the sort of girl that mutt would like. [It's a compliment but at the same time not a compliment.] Do you have a name? I like knowing who I'm talking to.

[She's not entirely sure whether to take it as one, so she just smiles brightly.] I'm Vanille. It's nice to meet you. Shirley, you said your name was?

[The cheerfulness is going to burn, isn't it?] Yes, Shirley McAllister. I suppose given the circumstances it's nice to meet someone who isn't going to make my day worse. [She pauses for a moment before asking her question, deciding she might as well.] Where in Australia are you from? [Because only Australians have that sort of accent in her experience.]

[Burn so badly. Better get your sunscreen.] Australia? Never heard of it. I'm from Gran Pulse.

[Even that might not help, she doesn't really hang out with positive people.] How can you not have-- Where on earth is Gran Pulse?

[Clearly this is an alien then, this is the only explanation.]

[Too bad, because Vanille hangs out with you whether you like it or not.] It's by Cocoon? It's okay though, nobody else here has ever heard of it either. [A small sigh.] Where are you from?

[That's going to be hilarious.] Cocoon? Is Cocoon an entirely separate world somewhere I would have never heard of or is it a facet of another world? [Well done Shirley you've probably just completely confused the entire situation.] I'm from Scotland. [A beat.] Earth.

Oh, Earth. [She nods knowingly, as if she's the foremost expert on Earth these days.] I've met a lot of people here from Earth. It's not the same, um, dimension as where I'm from? At least, that's how people have explained it.

[At least she would be the perkiest expert.] That makes sense, part of me isn't technically from Earth, it's from something sort of connected but only for certain people with certain abilities at hand. What's Gran Pulse like?

[It'll district her from her pissiness about this abduction to hear about other things. Hopefully.]

[Okay Shirley you're losing her, so she'll just focus on the part she can talk about.] Oh, it's lovely - lots of open space and fields and everything's gorgeous. Though it's a bit...different from the last time I saw it. I hadn't been home in a while before I was brought to Aliunde.

How long is a while? The longest I've ever been away from home has only been a few months. Although technically where I was then was like a second home so I doubt that even counts to be honest.

Um, 500 years? [She smiles sheepishly.] I was kind of frozen in crystal. [Because that makes a LOT of sense, Van, good job.]

[Oddest thing Shirley has heard in her life, well done Vanille, gold stars for you.]

You were what?
