Damn, Darcy, what happened?

[It's been a little while, and she's been sitting on the floor with her back to her bed. The screen lights up with Tony's face. When she speaks, her words are monotone.] The Odinsons are gone. [She doesn't even know if Tony knew Magnus.]

[ironfail]

What? [There's the sound of a chair scraping against hardwood, and Tony talking in low tones to JJ. A few seconds later, the AI responds, and Tony's picking up his phone again, running a hand back through his hair.] Shit. There goes more of our merry little band.

'm sorry, Tony. [Darcy mutters, forever pouting. Her cheeks are tear-streaked, red with fainter lines where the tears slid.] Maggy's gone, too.

Don't - no, I'm fine. [He is not okay right now, but he's obviously more okay than Darcy, and that just won't do. He can deal with his own feelings later. That's nothing new for him.] Oh. I'm, ah, sorry. Do you need... [He trails off, unsure what to offer.] Company? I got a bottle of booze with our names on it here.

If you want. [Darcy replies softly.] You and booze are always welcome. Until you get taken home, too.

Of course I want. Can't pass up an opportunity to hang out with my double favorite person. [He keeps the phone on as he starts getting ready to hop over to her place. Her last words make him pause in his search for an unopened bottle of alcohol.] I'm not going anywhere, sweetheart. My luck's too poor for that.

Okay. [Darcy nods. She sighs heavily.] You don't know that. Your luck could be even shittier and take Pepper away from you.

[Forgive her, Tony. She's sad. :'( ]

[Tony's grip tightens around the neck of the bottle he'd just picked up.] Then she'd be safe and sound back home. I'd prefer it.

[Deciding the booze in his hand is good enough, he leaves a quick message with JJ to tell Pepper where he's gone to and heads out of the house.]

But she wouldn't be with you anymore. [Darcy frowns.]

[ironfail]

[Tony tilts the phone back up so she can see his face.] She wasn't with me for the first couple of months I was here. I survived. It'd hurt like hell if it happened again, but I'd survive. [Every time he does something dumb he basically preps himself to be dumped and left alone again, so he's kind of used to it.]

So you're saying that's what I gotta do? Survive? [Her words taste bitter. She hates them. She doesn't want to survive. She wants her loved ones back. And if she can't have them back, she wants to go home.]

[ironfail]

That's your only option. [His tone is harsh and he feels bad about it, but right now he's just focused on getting to Darcy's house as quickly as he can.] You fight, so these bastards don't see you beat.

And what happens when you're tired of fighting? When you don't have any left in you? [She scoffs.]

Then you call me and I supply the booze and commiseration until you're ready to fight again.

[Darcy sighs heavily. He just won't quit. Guess that's why he's a superhero.] Fine.
