[It looks like re-animation, but it can't be that, summoning souls and bodies out of no-where. It's certainly not what Gothel has seen before, and despite the obvious emotion and strain on his features, she doesn't bother with trying to give consolidation. He's a big boy, he can look after himself.
No, she's more interested in the power he's displaying. Now if only she could harness that somehow...]
[The tension that floods him when he hears another human voice is palpable; his first instinct is to ignore the device, or shut it off. Or destroy it - he did not want to see anyone right now, or be seen.
But he reins in that impulse, and it's only a few moments before the long view of the room his replaced by a view of Vanyel only; given the angle, it appears he's holding the device in his lap. And he doesn't look much better off than he was last she saw him, but for one clear difference: this time, she isn't looking at an ill man who can barely keep himself in the here and now.
[All the weariness and strain has gone from his expression by now, and he looks entirely calm and maybe just the littlest bit cold. His gaze is sharp and entirely focused on her, and he offers a shrug and a brief, self-deprecating smile.]
They were illusions. As you saw, I have some difficulty pinning them down - so I need all the practice I can get.
[That's not strictly true, but since he doesn't trust Gothel one whit it's the only story she'll be
[Now that would have been terribly, terribly rude, wouldn't it? Not to mention wasteful. And it would have piqued her interest so much that she would have attempted to locate him, and bother him in person. Vanyel is probably glad that she isn't about to come and disrupt him. At least, not physically.
Frankly she looks more than a little amused, although still very much interested in what he's been doing]
Practise, certainly. Although might I suggest trying something a little less complex than human company? Why don't you try a gold-fish?
Humans are the only creatures I seem to have that problem with, so there'd be little point practicing on animals.
[A quick gesture from him, and a white mare takes shape peering down over his shoulder. A beautiful creature, though the mare's eyes are perhaps a little too knowing for an ordinary horse.
[He holds the illusion for a full minute, two. The mare remains a mare.] You see?
[And that voice he doesn't even know. He curses the device - he especially didn't want to have to deal with strangers right now. But it's not her fault, and taking his frustration out on her will solve nothing in the end.
[So he banishes the weariness and grief from his face and summons up a wan smile for the girl - the very blue girl. Well, that's... interesting.] Magic.
[He won't dispute the wording; they are illusions, after all. And it doesn't matter, really, if she believes him or thinks it's something else entirely.]
Gods... ten years now? [It might even be a bit longer than that, but not by much...]
