AliveJournal users, I need your help... :)

I believe I have fixed the problem that kept ALJ from working the past few weeks, but I need a few more people to test it before I stick it up on BeBits. So I ask you to try this executable.

Once you have tried it, please respond to this post with your results (either way). And please note, it seems ( Read more... )

OK, what happened on the laptop? Did you get a "connection timed out" error? Did it crash proper? Did it do something weirder?

Is this reproducable on your laptop, or is it intermittent..

And (sorry, I have to ask this one) are you sure you are running the new binary. :)

Thanks,
sean

I got the same old "connection timed out" no crashes, nothing unusual.

Yes it is reproducable, it does it everytime.

Yup, heh the binary from the link you posted.

hehehe.... Well, I hacked on it for about 6 hours last night, and I wrote quite a bit of code to consolidate some nastiness that I had to invoke quite a bit in the login process.

I am actually going to post about it in a bit, and possibly post another binary..

woo. yay! heh. does the source code for AliveJournal still require BeXL? If so do you ever plan on removing the BeXL bits? BeXL seems nice, but it just seems a little... bad for networking apps, imo. I may be wrong as I haven't played with it to much.

Negative... BeXL wasn't a problem as far as ALJ being a Networking App (in fact, I really don't see the problem you do), but my problem with BeXL was that it was great for laying out the controls it supports, but if you ever want to use an unsupported control you have to monkey around with the source after it is generated, or write an add-on for BeXL, which just isn't possible with my amounts of free time

So, a few months ago I decided to scrap using BeXL, and took the BeXL project file, generated source from it, and never opened it again. I spent about another week trying to clean up the source, but that project has really never ended... I am constantly finding things I would done differently (but they are mostly style things).

I am fairly certain that the latest archive on BeBits has source available, and when I make the next BeBits release (hopefully this weekend), I will push out a new snapshot of the source.
